Foxtail Millet – 1 ½ cup (soaked for 3-4 hrs)
Cumin seeds(jeera) – 1 tsp
Chana daal-1 tsp
Urad daal-1 tsp
Onion – 1 (medium size, finely chopped)
Tomato – 1 /4 cup (chopped)
Salt & pepper– to taste
Ghee – 2 tsp
Fries sprig of Curry leaves –for garnish

  1. Wash the millet thoroughly 6 to 7 times under running water, then soak it 3-4 hrs. Drain and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan or kadai, add the jeera and allow it to crackle. Add the urad & chana daal and as they turn slightly golden, add the cupped onion and sauté till translucent.
  3. Now add the tomatoes and let it cook. Season with salt & pepper.
  4. Add the drained millet and stir well.
  5. Pour double the quantity of water and let it cook with the lid on for about 10-15 mins. Once done, remove in a serving bowl, garnish with the fried sprig of curry leaves sprig and serve hot.
