Apple Pie

For the pie crust

Refined flour – 130 gm
Chilled butter – 90 gm
Icing sugar – 50 gm
Chilled water – 1 tbsp

For Filling

Peeled and Sliced apples-3
Castor sugar-75gms
Cinnamon powder-1tsp
Nutmeg powder-1/2tsp
Vanilla essence-1tsp
Salt – a pinch

For the assembly

Cookie cutters
Milk – for top wash

  1. For the dough, mix refined flour, icing sugar & some chilled butter together with the tips of your fingers.
  2. Add a tablespoon of chilled water, do not knead the dough as we don’t want the butter to melt with the warmth of your palms.
  3. Just bring it together quickly and keep the pie dough in the freezer at least for 30min.
  4. For the Filing

    In a bowl, add sliced apples, salt, castor sugar, cinnamon powder, nutmeg powder, vanilla essence & mix them well. Keep aside till you get the base ready.

    Final Assembly & Baking

  5. Preheat the oven at 180°c
  6. Take the pie dough out of the chiller & roll it out, enough to cover the base of the pie tin.
  7. Fill it with the apple mixture.
  8. Close the pie mould with another dough sheet(which you can make designs on by using a cookie cutter)Press the edges with a fork.
  9. Give a milk wash on top of the pie with the help of a brush.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes & serve warm with a dollop of vanilla ice-cream on the side.
