Wash both dals thoroughly.
In a pressure cooker, add dal, water, turmeric, and salt.
Cook for 3 whistles on medium flame until soft and mushy.
Heat oil in a kadai.
Add chopped onions and sauté on medium-low heat until golden brown.
Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
Turn off the heat and add red chilli powder.
Pour the prepared tadka over the cooked dal.
Mix well to combine flavors.
Top with slit green chillies and fresh coriander.
Serve hot with rice or roti.
