Green gram lentil (Hara moong dal)- ½ cup (washed & soaked for 2-3 hours)
Ginger – ½ inch
Green chillies – 1 (or as per your spice preference)
French beans(finely chopped) – 2 tbsp
Carrot(finely chopped)- 2 tbsp
Onion (finely chopped)- 2 tbsp
Salt- to taste
Oil – for greasing the appe pan
Water to adjust the consistency
- In a mixer grinder jar, add soaked green moong dal along with green chilli & ginger. Grind to a coarse paste without adding any water.
- Transfer the mixture to a bowl & whisk it to incorporate air & smooth the mixture. (this process makes the appe light)
- Now add water a little at a time & keep whisking.
- Once you see the consistency has changed & gets lighter in color, add chopped beans, carrots & onions.
- Season with salt & mix all together.
- Now add some more water & whisk it till you get a dropping consistency mixture.
- Once done, cover & keep it aside to rest for 10-15 mins.
- Heat an appe pan, add drops of oil in every mold & swirl the pan so all the sides are greased well.
- Take a spoonful of the mixture & pour it into each appe mold, let them cook on a low flame.
- Once the appe starts leaving the sides flip them with the help of a toothpick ( you can use a spoon as well) & cook them till they are golden brown & crisp.
- Insert a toothpick in the appe, and if it comes up clean, it means it is cooked 😀. (It takes around 4-5 mins to cook well)
- Now pack these cute appes in a tiffin box, along with crunchy popcorn by the side.
