½ Fresh lemon, chopped into small chunks
¼ inch Fresh turmeric root, peeled and sliced
¼ inch Fresh ginger, peeled
2 Black peppercorns
1 tbsp Honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)
6–8 Fresh tulsi (holy basil) leaves
A pinch of Black salt (Kala Namak)
¼ cup Chilled water
Handful of Ice cubes
Chilled soda water (club soda or sparkling water)
In a sturdy glass or mortar and pestle, combine lemon chunks, fresh turmeric, ginger, black peppercorns, honey, tulsi leaves, and black salt.
Muddle thoroughly, pressing down to release the essential oils and juices from the ingredients.
Pour ¼ cup chilled water into the muddled mixture.
Stir well to ensure the honey is fully dissolved and the flavors are evenly incorporated.
Fill a tall serving glass with plenty of ice cubes.
Strain the muddled concentrate into the glass to create a smooth drinking base.
Top the glass with chilled soda water.
Give it a gentle stir to combine the layers and serve immediately while fizzy and cold.
